Grad School Application fee waiver

It is possible to have the application fee waived for most schools. Very few have a process set up for AmeriCorps members. From experience, I recommend first contacting the Graduate School Admissions department of your school of interest and asking about a fee waiver because you are an AmeriCorps member. If the answer you receive is a no, find the contact information to the Dean of the Graduate School. Every school has a different structure, so make sure that you are contacting the Dean that corresponds to your program, incase there are multiple Deans. I sent letters like this to programs I was interested in, and every school that I sent a letter to has waived the fee. I just stated that I was an AmeriCorps member, described my position briefly, described the living allowance, and provided a letter from my coordinator verifying that I am serving. Do you find this valuable?
